Test Cases and Prospects of Pipeline Management Using Space Borne Earth Observation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Thanks to recent progress in satellite-based remote sensing technologies and object oriented image analysis, as well as to the availability of new very high-resolution sensors, it is now possible to design gas pipeline monitoring systems, as has been demonstrated by the co-funded European “PRESENSE Pipeline REmote SENsing for Safety and the Environment” project. In parallel, the European Space Agency ESA has launched initiatives in Earth Observation Market Development (EOMD), such as business case studies for the pipeline operations segment and the project “PIPEMON – Geo-information services for pipeline operators”, which aim to introduce Earth Observation services to the pipeline industry in Europe and the Russian Commonwealth of Independent States. Key requirements of gas pipeline operators in remote observation are third party interference, ground subsidence detection, pipeline route planning and gas detection. Further, pipeline security is a major issue in several European studies such as GMOSS (Global Monitoring of Safety and Security).

Revisiting the status of space-borne lidar missions for assessing structural and biophysical forest parameters in the context of sustainable management of Earth resources
Assessing forest aboveground biomass at global scale is crucial to address the challenge of sustainable management of forest resources and to strengthen forest-based climate change mitigation. To achieve this goal relying on spaceborne lidar missions is acknowledged to be a highly relevant solution. However, if this is taken as a given from the measurement point of view, the premise that spaceb...
متن کاملScheduling a constellation of agile earth observation satellites with preemption
In this paper, we consider a scheduling problem for a set of agile Earth observation satellites for scanning different parts of the Earth’s surface. We assume that preemption is allowed to prevent repetitive images and develop four different preemption policies. Scheduling is done for the imaging time window and transmission time domain to the Earth stations as well. The value of each picture ...

The Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) was successfully launched on Jan. 24, 2006, from Tanegashima Space Center, Japan. The objectives of ALOS are [1]: (1) to provide maps for Japan and other countries including Asia-Pacific region (Cartography), (2) to perform regional observation for "sustainable development", harmonization between Earth environment and development (Regional Observatio...
متن کاملElectro-Optical Design of Imaging Payload for a Remote Sensing Satellite
Remote sensing using small spacecraft arising from multi-objective economic activity problems is getting more and more developed. These satellites require very accurate pointing to specific locations of interest, with high reliability and small latency. The space borne imaging systems always attempted to achieve the highest ground resolution possible with the available technology at the given t...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of the High-altitude Launch Technique to Orbit Using Atmospheric Properties
The purpose of this paper is to perform the feasibility and performance evaluation of the High-altitude launch technique using high altitude atmospheric Properties to near earth orbits. The current propulsion transportation system from Earth to space has been deemed by many to be expensive, unreliable, and an unnecessarily dangerous means of travel to space. It is suggested in this paper to ana...
